Manifesto

Manifesto for the Horsham District Council elections in May 2015:

9 GOOD REASONS FOR KEEPING HORSHAM DISTRICT COUNCIL CONSERVATIVE

1. COUNCIL TAX FROZEN FOR 6 YEARS

Your Conservative led Horsham District Council has frozen Council tax for the last 6 years since April 2010.

We pledge: we are not increasing your council tax this year – any future increases will not exceed the rate of inflation.

2. PROTECTING FRONTLINE SERVICES

Your Conservative Council has made no cuts to frontline services while delivering the lowest level of council tax in West Sussex and one of the lowest in England.

We Pledge: to offer high quality services and continue our sound and innovative financial management.

3. CONTINUING WEEKLY BIN COLLECTIONS

70% of Councils have dropped weekly collections but Horsham District’s Conservative Council collects rubbish weekly, takes mixed recycling and offers garden refuse

We pledge: To continue to maintain weekly household bin collections.

4. HIGHEST RECYCLING RATE IN WEST SUSSEX

We introduced the highly successful blue and brown bin Acorn Plus scheme giving us the highest recycling in West Sussex.

We pledge: To positively work to encourage more recycling so that even more of what we collect at the kerbside is diverted away from landfill.

5. PUTTING LOCAL PEOPLE FIRST

Your Conservative council has ensured that local people come first by only offering social housing to those who have lived in our District for at least two years.

We are supporting our villages, towns and parishes in helping them to prepare their own Neighbourhood Plans, putting local people in the driving seat.

We Pledge: To provide more affordable homes for our local young people, support more neighbourhood plans and ensure that our local communities get the best benefits.

6. SUPPORT FOR THE LOCAL ECONOMY

Your Conservative council has worked hard to support local businesses and over the last 4 years Horsham District has had the highest number of new businesses start-up per adult (16-74), of any West Sussex district

We continue to buck the national trend in promoting the vitality of our High Streets, attracting high end national brand names such as John Lewis to the district, while 85% of new retail business which opened in Horsham in 2014, were independently owned protecting our unique market town character.

We Pledge…. That we will continue to promote economic development and jobs for our people, supporting our local business community.

7. INVESTMENT IN LEISURE AND HEALTH

Your council has an excellent track record of providing sports and leisure facilities throughout the district and this will continue. This includes our award winning swimming pools and our highly successful apitol theatre and Horsham museum.

We have actively helped finance health centres in Steyning, Pulborough and Southwater and provided extra funding for Horsham hospital. We have promoted good-health programmes and worked closely in aiding Doctors and the NHS to meet the health needs of our residents.

We Pledge….we will continue to influence and support health professionals, urging them to promote excellent health provision for all our residents

8. ONE OF THE SAFEST DISTRICTS IN THE COUNTRY

Horsham District is in the top ten safest districts in the whole of England to live in!

We are one of the first councils in the country to adopt new legislation into a policy tackling Anti Social Behaviour.

We will work with our parish councils to encourage more neighbourhood wardens.

We Pledge: To continue to work closely alongside the Police in our communities, helping to ensure we keep our district safe.

9. SUPPORTING A SUCCESSFUL SINGLE RUNWAY GATWICK

We favour economic development but we object to the noise, lack of infrastructure and environmental damage that would result from a second runway.

We Pledge: we oppose a second runway. If one is built, then we will do everything we can to minimise the impact on the lives of our residents.

DON’T COMPROMISE WITH YOUR LOCAL TAXES AND SERVICES
